Charles B. Aycock Birthplace

Charles Aycock was born into a simple rural home in 1859. In 1900 he was elected governor and afterward dedicated his life to improving public education in North Carolina. An 1893 one-room schoolhouse, moved to the birthplace, underscores that interest. This 19th-century family farm includes the house, a separate open-hearth kitchen, outbuildings, farm animals, and a period kitchen garden.

The governor link that appears in the above article is from the State Library of North Carolina site..
