James K. Polk Memorial

A memorial to the 11th U.S. President

The site is located on the land of the parents of the eleventh president. The memorial commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings - a log house, separate kitchen, and barn - are authentically furnished. The visitor center offers exhibits relating to the life and times of Polk and a 25 minute film on his life and civic contributions.
