McCulloch Gold Mill

McCulloch Gold Mill is located on the grounds of Castle McCulloch. Castle McCulloch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places! In 1790, the invention of the steam engine began the Industrial Revolution In England. Castle McCulloch was built by Charles McCulloch, a Cornish engineer, who brought this new technology to the gold fields of Jamestown, N.C. The Castle was completed in 1832 and took the labor of over 100 men and 2 years construct. The gold refinery operated there for over 30 years. The property remained in the McCulloch family for many generations, and changed hands several times thereafter, with ownership finally falling to it's current owner, Richard Harris. Mr. Harris, an engineer himself, with strong interests in stonework and historical restoration, rebuilt the rubble and ruins that had once been Castle McCulloch, to its' original splendor in the early 1980's.

McCulloch Gold Mill and Castle McCulloch are located in the Triad, near Jamestown, NC, just off Business 85 at Kivett Drive. Their entrance gate is on Kivett Drive and brings you to the property via a 1/2 mile scenic drive through the woods.

OFFICE HOURS: Our guided historic tours are by reservation only. Please call ahead for reservations. Our tours are scheduled, April through October, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 12:00 noon or 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
