Mary Lou Daily, Consultant
I am beginning my eighth year as an educational technology consultant. My first 5 years I served 32 Counties in the Western Region. Three years ago our regions were reorganized and I now work with 19 LEAs in the Southwest Region. The folks in the west are by nature very self sufficient with a can do attitude that serves them well, I have seen this especially in the challenging area of technology. They are up to any challenge and make my job easier and very rewarding.
The Southwest region is blessed with hundreds
of small rural communities that are proud of their schools and understand
that technology is a key to economic growth and development for their children.
Although I have an office in Raleigh and a regional office at the University
of North Carolina in Asheville most of my time is spent meeting with technology
directors and visiting schools across the region.
I am a mountain girl who loves the mountains and its people and I want to make a positive, meaningful difference in their lives. I was a teacher for 14 years before moving to a district level technology coordinator position and then to DPI as a consultant. I bring to this position a broad range of experiences which have enabled me to work closely with students, teachers and administrators. I am a member of a team of six regional consultants in the Instructional Technology Section of DPI. Our work includes the development of the State Educational Technology Plan, management of Federal Grants, coordination with LEAs in our regions to develop and implement their district and school plans as well as report progress toward the goals of those plans. All of this and more is done in an effort to support Future Ready Students for the 21st Century.
