Notes from the Nest

My favorite cartoon shows a group of medieval warriors arrayed on a hillside, facing the enemy, and prepared to do battle. As I recall, the commander is talking with a soldier who is holding an automatic weapon, apparently a Gatling gun, and saying something like "Not now, we don't have time!". Many of us can relate to the irony in this cartoon by recalling the many times that failure to take a little time up front for planning and preparing has ended up costing us both time and effectiveness in the long run. That idea is the central theme that unites this collection of essays, evaluations, and ramblings. My hope is that the time you spend reading any of the topics that may interest you will save you time and effort down the road. "Measure twice and cut once."
