Not interested in your topic?
Stop for a minute and think about all the things that interest you most. What do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Have you ever dreamed of learning to do something new, like snowboarding or canoeing? Well, now is your chance to start conducting real research on a topic of your very own choosing--and catch The Knowledge Rush!
If you have been assigned a topic that is not meaningful to you, try this trick: Find a connection between your real interests and the topic you've been given. Here's an example: Joe is crazy about skateboarding and he's been assigned a report on the state of North Carolina. Joe starts making connections and asking questions. How many skateboard parks are in North Carolina? Which parks are located near the state capitol? What is the largest skateboard park in N.C.? Where is it? What impact does geography have on this park? What is the population of this place? How does this population compare with neighboring towns or cities? Has the population increased or decreased? Is there a manufacturer of his favorite brand of skateboard in N.C.? Where is it located? What natural resources are used in the production of skateboards? Which of those natural resources come from North Carolina?
