  Week 21: Using Databases
1 What's Up?
Attention all Database Dudes and Divas out there! By now, you have enough knowledge to steer this Riverboat on your own. Sort through data, search on fields, generate reports---you can do it! Today is your day to put those skills into practice.

But don't get lost in all that data! The real secret to success with databases is what you do with all the information. It's easy to generate fancy reports and sort records in alphabetical order. Take yourself to a higher level by carving new ideas and meaning out of the facts. Look for patterns and read between the lines. Let your own intriguing questions bubble to the surface, then launch out to find the answers.

2 Let the fun Begin!
Get warmed up by practicing a few of your new database skills. Show what you know!

Now it’s time to pick and choose your own adventure from Kaleidoscope’s incredible list of EYE-POPPIN’ JAW-DROPPIN’ DATABASES! Which database will it be? Will you take a ride on the wild side with a rollercoaster database, listen to crazy animal sounds or look up movies? Will you show enough courage to read what health inspectors say about your favorite local restaurant or pull up the number of unprovoked shark attacks off the coast of North Carolina?

3 MUYOM - Make Up Your Own Mind
For two weeks now, you’ve been creating a database related to your special research topic. This form helped you decide which fields to put in the database and presented examples of two databases (on four wheelers and a Barbie doll collection) created by fifth graders just like you.

Continue adding information to your database this week. Don’t forget to save your work often and to make a backup copy of your file.
