It's
only natural to feel stressed when taking a test. Why? Because your
adrenal glands sometimes send a hormone (adrenaline) racing through
your body when you get nervous or excited.
Make
sure you have studied thoroughly. Obviously, if you are sure of
the information, you will be less inclined to worry.
You
KNOW the other basics, right? Get plenty of sleep, dress in comfortable
clothes and eat before the test.
Repeat
the breathing exercise described below while your teacher is passing
out the test.
Look
over the test before you start working. If a part seems unclear,
raise your hand and ask the teacher for an explanation.
Concentrate
on each test item individually and take the time to really, really
think about it. Don't allow yourself to feel overwhelmed by looking
at the other test questions.
Don't
know an answer? Just chill and move on to the next question. You
can come back to it at the end of the test.
Big
essay test? Take a minute or two to make an outline first. It will
save you time in the end, because your thoughts will be better organized.
If
you panic or freeze during a test, stop and take a very small relaxation
break. Breathe deeply, squeeze and relax your fingers and toes,
and roll your head from side to side. Picture yourself in a calm
place or a favorite spot.
