Conditions
among classrooms and school networks are quite different.
There are many variables beyond our control. The quality
of your school's Internet access will have a definite impact
on the way you are able to use (or not use) Kaleidoscope
and other educational sites for teaching and learning. For
example, your computer's processing speed and amount of RAM
will affect the performance of this site. Also, you will
discover that some pages display incorrectly with Netscape
Navigator, but look fine when viewed with Internet Explorer.
Or you may or may not have all of the required plug-ins.
You get the picture, right? No need to worry. First Aid will
get you up and running in no time!

| Kaleidoscope
is best viewed with Internet
Explorer. Download the most recent version. (Download
the most recent version of Netscape
Navigator.)
Kaleidoscope
contains JavaScript (scripted equations that
cause certain behaviors). Most browser versions 4.0
and above will be compatible with JavaScript.
See
and download the plug-ins
needed for Kaleidoscope.
Edit
the browser's preferences NOT to show scripting
errors.
Any
working modem is capable of supporting Kaleidoscope;
however, we don't recommend visiting this site with
anything less than a 56K modem. You can, but it will
load slowly, just like any other site.
Set
your browser's font size to 12.
On some browsers, it's as simple as going to VIEW
in the top menu bar, then choose TEXT SIZE, then
select SMALLER. Go to your browser's HELP section
to read instructions that work for your machine. See
the sample instructions. Please note: these
instructions do not work in all situations.
Set
your computer's screen display to a minimum of "thousands
of colors." The pages were designed with "millions
of colors."
If
you're having difficulty loading Web pages, you may
want to clear the
browser's cache.
There
are several sound files located throughout the site. Learn
how to use sound files.
