Week 24: Using a Database to Create a Product
1 What's Up?
This is the time to ride the Tidal Wave of information straight in to shore and create a product with your database. But wait! Do you need more time to complete your database of family and friends? If so, go to step #1 below. Move on to step #2 if your database is complete.

Squeeze the water out of your swimsuit and say good-bye to the Water Park. You have completed six weeks of action-packed database instruction. Pat yourself on the back!

2 Let the fun Begin!
1. Continue collecting data and/or making entries in the database you created last week. Review some of the tips from last week. Your teacher will tell the class when it’s time to stop collecting data and making entries.

2. Sort your database in a way that would be most useful. Which fields are important? How do you want the information to print? Would you like to sort the records alphabetically with last name first or sort another way?

3. When you’re satisfied with the way your database is sorted and arranged, print one copy. Examine it closely and make any changes to the layout.

4. Fantastic! Now let’s crank out a cover for your directory. Use TIME for Kids Mag-o-Matics to print a colorful cover for your directory. You will need to SCROLL DOWN the page to find the section for Mag-o-Matics. Pick pictures, type headlines, and add captions that reflect the nature of your special database. Have fun!

5. Place the Mag-o-Matics cover on top of your printed directory and bind it in some way. Congratulations!

MUYOM - Make Up Your Own Mind
This might be the last week you focus on databases in TechKnow Park, but that doesn’t mean you need to stop using them. Save the database on your special research topic and store a backup of your file in a safe place. Now is a good time to print a hard copy, too. Keep the file handy and continue adding records as you gather more information on your special research topic. Don’t forget to make regular backups. You don’t want to lose all that hard work, do you?
