The World as a Classroom

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game during which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called “geocaches” or “caches”) anywhere in the world. Geocaching provides the opportunity for students to make vital connections between the classroom and the real world.

Geocaching reaches its highest potential when it becomes a cross-curricular activity blending social studies and technology into an activity that promotes excitement, independence, decision making, problem solving, and higher-level thinking skills to analyze and interpret data.
In this section, a selection of Web resources provides the novice with the information necessary to begin geocaching. This activity can expand the horizons of those who are pursuing this adventure.
